On Sunday, Pastor Abraham began a powerful two-part teaching series on “How to Attain Spiritual Maturity.” He started with 1 Corinthians 13:11, emphasizing that growing spiritually requires intentional steps. Maturity doesn’t just happen with time—it comes through commitment, discipline, and a deeper relationship with God.
So, how do we attain spiritual maturity? Here are the key points from Part 1 of the teaching:
- Start making God first in your daily life (Proverbs 3:5-6; Psalm 37:4). Spiritual growth begins when we intentionally put God at the center of everything.
- Be committed to a local church where you are fed the Word of God (1 Corinthians 1:8-9, NIV). Growth happens in a community of believers.
- Understand what the church represents:
- It is the sanctuary of God.
- It is the Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12).
- It is the House of God (Psalm 84:10; 1 Timothy 3:14-15).
- It is where we bear each other’s burdens (Galatians 6:2).
- We are encouraged not to forsake gathering together (Hebrews 10:24-25).
- Even Jesus made it His custom to attend church (Luke 4:16-18).
- The apostles followed Jesus’ example (Acts 2:42).
- God designed the church to be the head in the world (Ephesians 1:19-23, CEV).
- The church is where you are spiritually nurtured, cared for, and instructed in the things of God, especially eternal life (John 21:15-17; 2 Timothy 2:15, NIV).
- The church is called the Bride of Jesus (Ephesians 5:25-27, 32).
- It is also the fellowship of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 1:8-9).
- Commit to a daily devotion that includes personal Bible study and prayer (Psalm 63:1; Psalm 119:9-11).
- Allow God to remove anything that hinders your transformation into His image (Romans 12:1-12).
- Be humble enough to submit to spiritual authority, especially for correction (Genesis 16:9; Hebrews 13:17).
Pastor Abraham reminded us that spiritual maturity is not just about knowing the Bible but living it out daily, staying rooted in a local church, and allowing God to shape us into His image.
See the key points below:
- Put God first daily (Proverbs 3:5-6; Psalm 37:4).
- Stay committed to a church that feeds you the Word (1 Corinthians 1:8-9, NIV).
- Understand the purpose and significance of the church (Ephesians 4:11-12; Galatians 6:2; Hebrews 10:24-25).
- Follow Jesus’ example in attending church (Luke 4:16-18).
- Commit to personal Bible study and prayer (Psalm 63:1; Psalm 119:9-11).
- Let God remove anything that hinders your transformation (Romans 12:1-12).
- Submit to spiritual authority for guidance and correction (Genesis 16:9; Hebrews 13:17).
