Seven Biblical Reasons to Support Your Local Church Financially
II Corinthians 8:1–7
Pastor Abraham Adesayo
Dear Church Family,
One of the clearest expressions of our love for God is seen in how we honor Him with what He has entrusted to us. In this week's message, Pastor Abraham reminded the church that biblical giving is not merely a financial obligation. It is an act of worship, obedience, gratitude, and faith.
Drawing from II Corinthians 8:1–7, Pastor Abraham showed that generous believers understand that everything they possess comes from God. When we give with the right heart, we become willing partners in advancing God's Kingdom and fulfilling His purpose through the local church.
Providing for the House of God
God has always desired that His house be well supplied. Throughout Scripture, His people were instructed to bring their tithes and offerings so that His work would continue without lack.
When God's people faithfully support His house, they position themselves to experience His provision and blessing. Supporting the local church ensures that ministry continues, lives are transformed, and the Gospel reaches more people.
Supporting Spiritual Leaders and Church Workers
God calls His people to honor those who faithfully labor in teaching, preaching, and serving the church.
Those who devote themselves to the work of ministry are worthy of support. Financial giving helps pastors, ministers, and church workers remain focused on serving God's people and fulfilling their calling.
Demonstrating Obedience and Trust in God
Giving is one of the clearest demonstrations that our confidence is in God rather than in material possessions.
Honor the Lord with the first and best of what He has blessed you with. Everything we possess already belongs to God — we simply return a portion to Him with grateful hearts.
Every offering declares that God remains our Source, our Provider, and our Sustainer.
Investing in Eternal Rewards
The Bible teaches that there are rewards that extend beyond this present life.
Store up treasures in heaven rather than placing all your focus on earthly possessions. Every sincere gift given for God's Kingdom becomes an eternal investment that carries lasting value.
Expressing Gratitude and Worship
Giving is worship in action.
Our offerings communicate appreciation for God's goodness, mercy, salvation, and daily provision.
Gifts presented with the right motive become a pleasing sacrifice that brings delight to God.
A thankful believer naturally becomes a generous believer.
Expanding the Work of God's Kingdom
The mission of the church requires willing and faithful support from God's people.
God's people were called to carefully consider their priorities, and Israel willingly gave toward the construction of God's dwelling place.
Every faithful contribution helps strengthen ministry, reach new souls, disciple believers, support missions, maintain church facilities, and expand the influence of the Gospel.
Never Appearing Before God Empty-Handed
God instructed His people not to come before Him empty-handed.
Every person should give according to the measure of God's blessings upon their life.
Giving reflects honor, reverence, and appreciation for the One who has first blessed us.
What Makes Our Giving Acceptable to God?
Pastor Abraham concluded by emphasizing that God is concerned not only with what we give but also with the condition of our hearts.
Knowledge
Giving should be rooted in biblical understanding rather than pressure or tradition. David demonstrated this by refusing to offer God something that cost him nothing. True giving flows from a heart that understands what giving means and why it matters.
Willingness
God delights in willing hearts. The people rejoiced because they gave freely and wholeheartedly unto the Lord. Giving that pleases God begins with a heart that chooses generosity rather than one that feels compelled by obligation.
Cheerfulness
God loves a cheerful giver. Giving should never be done reluctantly or under compulsion. Joyful generosity reflects confidence in God's unfailing provision — it is the mark of a believer who truly trusts that God is their Source.
An Act of Worship
Financial support of the local church is far more than meeting expenses. It is an act of worship that demonstrates faith, gratitude, obedience, and commitment to God's Kingdom.
Every offering placed before God becomes a testimony that He is first in our lives. As we faithfully support His work, we participate in changing lives, advancing the Gospel, and building His Kingdom for generations to come.
Honor God. Support His House. Invest in Eternity.
Examine Your Heart
Take time this week to examine your heart concerning giving. Ask God to help you see every opportunity to give as an act of worship instead of obligation.
Reflect on these questions:
- Does my giving reflect my trust in God?
- Am I honoring God with the first and best of what He has blessed me with?
- Do I give willingly, joyfully, and with understanding?
As you place God first in your finances, trust Him to continue proving Himself faithful in every area of your life.
