š Psalm 103:1-10, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Psalm 36:5-10, Luke 17:9-11
This Sunday, Pastor Ronke Adetunji reminded us that as believers, we are surrounded by God’s countless blessingsāeven the ones we often overlook. Her sermon, titled “Count Your Blessings,” was a heartfelt call to adopt a daily lifestyle of gratitude and appreciation.
⨠Understanding Blessings
Blessings arenāt just about tangible things like cars, houses, or money. Biblical blessings encompass God’s favor, provision, spiritual riches, and sustaining grace. As Pastor Adetunji said, “It’s impossible to truly count our blessings because they are too numerous and too deep.”
š¹ What It Means to Count Your Blessings
To count your blessings is to take inventory of all God has doneābig and small. It’s a spiritual exercise of remembering, acknowledging, and thanking God for His benefits.
“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
āPsalm 34:1
⨠Why You Should Count Your Blessings
-
Most blessings are taken for granted. (Psalm 103:2)
From the air we breathe to the health we enjoy, we often miss God’s gifts because we assume they’re automatic. -
Your worth is greater than you know.
Pastor Adetunji compared the value of our body parts to the cost of surgeries and transplantsāreminding us that our daily functionality is a divine gift worth appreciating. -
Your hardship might be a doorway to purpose.
Sometimes, God allows discomfort to move us out of complacency and into destiny. -
You are more blessed than millions around the world.
The ability to worship freely, to hear God’s Word, and to fellowship openly is a privilege many do not enjoy.
š¹ Biblical Example: The Ten Lepers (Luke 17:11-19)
Only one of the ten healed lepers returned to thank Jesus. Pastor Adetunji humorously listed possible excuses the other nine made, challenging us to never let entitlement or forgetfulness rob God of His due praise.
š Final Reflection: Be Thankful, No Matter What
Job, despite losing everything, still worshiped God. Gratitude is not based on what you have but on Who you know. God remains worthy of praise, even in pain.
“Count your blessings instead of your crosses; Count your gains instead of your losses…”
⨠Encouragement for the Week
Take a moment daily to say, “Thank You, Lord.” Whether you’re on a mountaintop or in a valley, gratitude will shift your perspective, anchor your heart, and stir your faith. You are more blessed than you think.
